Towards Words and Unending Depth is a compilation of the work of eight members of Compass Writers, a diverse group based in Waterford City.
A variety of style and subject is apparent. There is a scary surprise in a woodland setting, a nostalgic desire to visit Paris and an unexpected sighting in a hospital ward. Rain is seen to have a new dimension and a Sheriff gets more than he bargained for. There is a tribute to a famous poet and another to a famous hostage. The major issues of life and death, love and loss, tenderness and brutality are explored. The longing of the heart is also explored and creatures from Greek mythology are given a modern rendering. Religious themes are to be found in some of the works and nature is captured in various forms.
We use words as one of the ways in which we make sense of our world and its many intangible aspects. Gathered together words invite us to explore and understand what we are about on this planet and in the universe. Words invite us to have new perspectives and to see the world in a different way. As we move towards the selection of words, we recognise that they offer a depth of meaning that is unending.
